Ahhh, it's good to back!
After spending some time working at Slave to the Needle Tattoo and Body Piercing in Seatlle, WA and Evolution Piercing in Albuquerque, NM I've returned to my beloved Minneapolis and Saint Sabrina's. Travelling the country and working with other piercers was an invaluable experience that taught me lots of new things about my profession.
With a baby on the way, I'm thrilled to be back in Minneapolis, to be able to reconnect with some of my wonderful clients and to build relationships with lots of new ones.
I began piercing professionally in 1997, starting my career at a tattoo studio in Newport, Minnesota. Since the Twin Cities have always been my home, I decided to stay in the area when I left that establishment. During the course of my career, I have worked at, and helped manage, 6 other studios, striving to ensure appropriate standards were met. During this time, I also received my degree in graphic design.
Even with my graphic design degree in-hand, I was unable to ignore my love for piercing. I continued piercing, and at the end of 2004, I became a member of the Association of Professional Piercers... a goal I set for myself at the beginning of my piercing career.
Through my involvement in the APP, I have participated in continuing-education courses that include:
- Standards for appropriate body jewelry
- Sterilization techniques
- Aseptic piercing techniques
- Piercing aftercare theory and methodology
- Medical risk assessment
- Anthropology
- OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens
- CPR
- First Aid
In addition to trying to educate my clients, I have spoken about the health and safety aspects of body piercing at local colleges, high schools, and junior highs and the APP Conferences. I've also shared my experiences and knowledge in a variety of different settings within the medical community. Please contact me at Saint Sabrina's if you are interested in having me speak to your school or organization.
I also enjoy bicyling (mountain and road), photography, print making, art/design, making vegan treats, snowboarding, organic food adn culture and traveling.
